On October 31st, nearly 30 international students from over 10 countries studying at Zhejiang International Studies University visited the Zhejiang Merchants Museum for an in-depth tour and exchange. Professor Wang Guo’an, a renowned economist from Zhejiang Gongshang University, provided detailed explanations in English throughout the entire process.

Under Professor Wang Guo’an's enthusiastic interpretation, the international students systematically gained an insight into the spiritual map of Zhejiang merchants. From the time-honored historical and cultural genes of Zhejiang, to the courage of breakthrough and innovation of "daring to be the first in the world" amid the tide of reform and opening-up; from the ups and downs and magnificent entrepreneurial legends of iconic entrepreneurs such as Jack Ma and Li Shufu, to the global strategic layout of Zhejiang merchants  under the "sweet potato economy" model; from the practice of common prosperity through joint efforts in the journey of rural revitalization, to the cutting-edge technological innovation ecosystem represented by Hangzhou's "Six Little Dragons"... Inside the museum, precious photos, historical exhibits, and entrepreneurial stories vividly interpret the rich connotation of Zhejiang merchants '  "Four-Thousand Spirit" (traveling thousands of mountains and rivers, speaking thousands of words, thinking of thousands of ways, and enduring thousands of hardships) in the new era. During the visit, the international students were deeply attracted, immersively experiencing the unique charm of Zhejiang's innovation ecosystem and Zhejiang merchants spirit, and expressing high appreciation for the entrepreneurial spirit and wisdom of Zhejiang merchants.

After the visit, the students listened to Professor Wang's special sharing on Zhejiang merchants’ spirit in the multi-function hall of the Zhejiang Merchants Museum. Participants in the discussion and exchange included Pan Daqing, Chief Reviewer (retired) of the Foreign Affairs and Training Division at the Hangzhou Regional Center for Small Hydropower (Asia-Pacific), Lawyer Tang Guozhu, Partner of Zhejiang Zhengyuhe Law Firm, James Si, CEO and General Manager of Hangzhou Hehao Travel Planning Co., Ltd., and Jack Li from the Secretariat of Zhejiang Youth Entrepreneur Association and so on.

Professor Wang's in-depth yet accessible explanation enabled the international students to gain a more profound and thorough understanding of Zhejiang merchants' spirit. As an important birthplace of China's private economy, Zhejiang is home to over 10 million market entities, among which the Zhejiang merchants group have written a wonderful chapter in China's reform and opening-up with the demeanor of "trendsetters". With its distinctive positioning of "cultural inheritance, spiritual promotion, innovative exhibition, and international exchange", the Zhejiang Merchants Museum has become a key window for showcasing the vitality of China's market economy. This visit by international students is not only an important opportunity for cultural exchange, but also opens a unique window for them to understand China's business culture and feel China's innovative spirit.
